Maria Anna Obermeier

In this performance Maria explores the social and emotional extensions of human coexistence with the public of Crying Classroom. By bringing love messages from the private context into the everyday and working sphere, the artist touches upon the need for love, and the meaning behind our shared encounters with symbols of love and how these commons and similarities in sensing love become far more important to our coexistence as humans than what common sense might suggest.

Maria Anna Obermeier creates sceneries in public where human and non-human beings meet. Like picking up something shiny and fragile on the ground, she uses intimate gestures – such as gift-giving or love notes – to examine political processes and deconstruct power relations between the subjects in her work.
