CRYING CLASSROOM VIENNA
“Thoughts on crying”
19.01.2024, Vienna, Austria
Workshops at the PCAP (Post-conceptual Art Practices) at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien
Moderators: Rand Ibrahim, Nadja Kracunovic
Collaborator: Melina Vesley
The Crying Classroom had the pleasure of collaborating with artist Melina Vesely on her project “Thoughts on Crying” at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien in Vienna during the winter semester Rundgang (summary).
Structured as two workshops and a series of exercises, the classroom featured two sessions: “Get External!” moderated by Nadja Kracunovic, and “Urgency to Appropriate: Everybody’s Most Unwanted Monologue” moderated by Rand Ibrahim. Following an introductory round, both sessions delved into themes of social responsibility and emotional capacity, exploring concepts such as emotional generosity, empathy, sympathy, and sensational distance.
Through meaningful exchanges, participants demonstrated a collective commitment to addressing the broader implications of emotions. Their engagement and shared perspectives enriched our exploration of crying and societal dynamics, adding a crucial dimension of solidarity to the experience.
